If you are a player in a pool, rather than a manager, you can use Mac QB Share to track the pool results each weekend. When you get a master sheet with the player's picks, enter the schedule and spread points, if necessary. Then enter the players picks. As the game results start coming in, enter the scores. Mac QB will then tell you if anyone has won, who still has a chance to win, and who has been eliminated.
• If you are going to practice using Mac QB Share, practice with one of the demo files. DO NOT CREATE A NEW FILE TO PRACTICE ENTERING PICKS, ETC.. Mac QB Share will consider it a real file and count the weeks you've entered as part of the 5 week usuage limit.
WHAT'S NEW IN MAC QB 1.1 SHARE
KNOWN BUGS IN 1.0 CORRECTED
• The problem that occurs on some Macs with Type 1 errors when viewing the Entry Form or Master Sheets has been corrected. A couple other oddities have been corrected. In the initial week, all active players had checks by their name, even before their picks had been entered. Also, when partial scores were entered, a player with 0-0 picks would be ranked above one with 4-0.
QUICK ACCESS BUTTONS
I've added quick access icon buttons on the splash screen. Clicking one of these takes you immediately to the routine with the current week selected, rather than having to indicate which week you want. For example, if you click the Results button, you will always see the results of the current week's picks.
CONFIDENCE POINTS CHECK OFF BOXES
For confidence pools I've added Confidence Points Check Off Boxes for players to use to keep track of the confidence points they've used in their picks. (Thanks to Rich Baranski for this suggestion.) Hopefully, this will cut down the number of player entry forms with duplicate and/or missing numbers.
BULLET POSITIONING ON PRINTED MASTER SHEET
If you're using a non PostScript printer, other than the Imagewriter, the bullets in the Master Sheet may be off slightly. You can adjust them by choosing Adjust Bullet Position in the Edit Menu. This affects only the printed form. The form you see on your screen will not show the changes.
PLAYER'S PAID BOX IN THE PLAYERS PICK WINDOW
The Paid box in the players picks window has been changed to two radio buttons. If you set the default in the Program Preferences to Paid Button On, then the Paid button will be automatically turned on when you first enter a player's weekly picks. If this option is off, then neither button will be on, forcing you to turn one of them on before you can continue to the next player. It's a way of making sure that you keep accurate records.
ENTRY FORMS
You can now print or view the Entry Form for any week where you have entered a schedule. However, be advised that the directions and comments are not archived weekly. Only one set of directions and comments are saved with each file. You do, however, have some flexibility with them.
When you run The Mac Quarterback 1.2 and open a pool file, the directions and comments for that file are placed on the Mac QB clipboard. When you choose to view or print the Entry Form, the directions and comments that are displayed are the ones on the clipboard. Changing them changes the clipboard but does not affect the original directions and comments, unless you save the changes.
If you change the directions and comments for a particular week, but wish to print out another week with the original directions and comments, click the Restore button.
PERSONALIZED ENTRY FORMS
If you choose this option in the Print items under the File Menu, Mac QB will print out an Entry Form for each player with the player's name on it instead of the Name:___________ that usually appears.
Mac QB 1.2 does not provide for printing a personalized Entry Form for one player only. However, you can get around this by doing the following:
1. Before choosing Personalized Entry Forms, pull down the Active Players menu and count down to the player you want.
2. When the standard Print Dialog box appears, enter the players number in both the beginning and ending pages boxes.
• When you begin using Mac QB Share, the file you use will be a shareware file. When you send in your registration fee and receive The Mac Quarterback, it will convert your shareware file with all the data intact. You can then continue the pool using the same file.
• If you have obtained Mac QB Share after the season has started and want to begin with a week other than week #1, do the following:
1. Enter a bogus schedule of one game for each of the weeks you wish to skip.
2. Enter the scores for the first week. This will activate the Change Scores item in the Pool Menu.
3. Choose Change Scores from the Pool Menu and select the last week you want to skip.
4. Enter the scores for that week.
Mac QB will now begin your pool at the next week. Skipping weeks will not affect the 5 week usage limit.
